Lauren Book will lead supporters for a 1,500-mile trek across the state of Florida, from Key West to Tallahassee, beginning Tuesday to raise awareness for childhood sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The \u201cWalk in My Shoes\u201d timing corresponds with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month, both recognized in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">New to the walk this year, Book\u2019s foundation, Lauren\u2019s Kids, is launching a survivor oral history storytelling initiative called The Voices Project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor eleven years, we have walked across Florida to shine a light on child sexual abuse and to remind survivors they are not alone,\u201d\u00a0Book said. \u201cThis year, we are expanding that mission by creating space for survivors to share their stories in their own voices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Voices Project allows survivors throughout April to anonymously record their personal testimonials of abuse and survival. A mobile recording unit will travel with walkers along their journey to gather testimonials. Others who wish to participate can sign up at <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__http:\/laurenskidswalk.org\/__;!!PIZeeW5wscynRQ!rEbKYGdwvTeFjKswaTherWdQmvfYfOculBK5ab5nWX8GctVEJkpsg7Bcn4bwTTiAAaVhWLLVPOL9GmA7EYYNKGde$\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">LaurensKidsWalk.org<\/a> \u2014 and, to expand the project\u2019s reach, survivors everywhere are also invited to submit audio recordings of up to five minutes by emailing <a href=\"http:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection#e0968f89838593a08c819592858e938b898493ce8f9287\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/a>. Recordings will become part of a growing digital archive focused on awareness, education, and survivor empowerment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moffitt.org\/lp\/impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-779869 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/FL_TopChoice_LearnMore_728-\u00d7-90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The walk will begin in Key West on Tuesday and conclude on May 1 near the Florida Capitol, with participants clocking 25 miles each day. The event seeks to raise awareness for childhood sexual abuse and will feature survivors and advocates as well as schools and educators who teach Lauren\u2019s Kids\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__http:\/safersmarterkids.org\/__;!!PIZeeW5wscynRQ!rEbKYGdwvTeFjKswaTherWdQmvfYfOculBK5ab5nWX8GctVEJkpsg7Bcn4bwTTiAAaVhWLLVPOL9GmA7EdttIVSd$\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Safer, Smarter Kids<\/a>\u00a0abuse prevention curriculum program, law enforcement, sex crimes prosecutors, community and elected leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/laurenskidswalk.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Walk in My Shoes<\/a>\u00a0journey is personal. Book is a survivor herself. What began as one woman turning pain into purpose has grown into a statewide movement to protect children and heal hearts. Over the next month, Book will stop in communities across the state to walk alongside fellow survivors, advocates and local leaders, calling attention to a crisis that affects 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys before they turn 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through Lauren\u2019s Kids, Book has made it her life\u2019s mission to end child sexual abuse. The nonprofit\u2019s award-winning prevention curriculum programs,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/safersmarterkids.org\/home\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Safer, Smarter Kids<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/safersmarterteens.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Safer, Smarter Teens<\/a>, teach age-appropriate safety skills in schools across Florida and beyond \u2014 because 95% of child sexual abuse is preventable with education and awareness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are more than 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse in the U.S. \u2014 and every day, new cases are reported in Florida. The walk is a chance to say: no more. No more silence. No more shame.
