(CBS12) \u2014 Fort Lauderdale\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barbiedreamfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Barbie Dream Fest<\/a> promised glitter, pink, and empowerment\u2014but for many attendees, the reality felt more like a bargain-bin mirage than a dream come true.<\/p>\n<p>Guests who paid as much as $300 to attend the three-day event March 27-29 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftlauderdalecc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Broward Convention Center<\/a> flooded social media with photos and videos of what they described as sparse, low-budget d\u00e9cor and underwhelming attractions.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most widely shared complaints: balloons still stamped with \u201cMichaels,\u201d a so-called \u201clifesized dream house\u201d revealed to be a flat cardboard cutout, a silent roller disco, and a pink Volkswagen van roped off from guests.<\/p>\n<p>Their website, which now only directs visitors to a help desk email, once hosted a schedule of 30 activities per day, making the high ticket cost appear more reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>These events included autograph sessions, a guided art experience, Barbie dream flow yoga, a meet-and-greet Marlee Matlin and more.<\/p>\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/news\/local\/palm-beach-co-election-office-theft-suspect-wrote-in-name-on-roster-before-swiping-usb-key-palm-beach-county-data-key-theft-election-office-activator-usb-security-breach-voter-registration-database-encryption-john-domnick-panicci-suspect-walk-in-intrusio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PBC Election Office theft suspect wrote-in name on roster before swiping USB key: PBSO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The backlash quickly gained traction online, with some comparing the event to the infamous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/fyrefestival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fyre Festival<\/a> and others likening it to the viral Glasgow debacle,  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@abcnews\/video\/7340842668139859242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Willy&#8217;s Chocolate Experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While appearances by WNBA&#8217;s Angel Reese and tennis legend Serena Williams offered moments of inspiration, they did little to shift the overall tone online, where critics branded the festival \u201cWilly Wonka coded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amid mounting criticism, organizer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mischiefmanagement.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mischief Management<\/a> announced Monday it will issue full refunds to all ticket holders.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><script async src=\"\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
