MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 A 52-year-old man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a burglary in west Miami-Dade, the Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office confirmed.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report obtained Monday by Local 10 News, Pedro Luis Diaz-Castro, of Miami, was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, damaging a phone\/power wire during a burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.<\/p>\n
The burglary occurred just after 3 a.m. on March 14 in the 2200 block of Southwest 153rd Path.<\/p>\n
Deputies said Diaz-Castro and another person jumped over a security gate outside the home before entering the property, opening the electrical panel and cutting off the power, causing the home\u2019s security alarm and cameras to stop working.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the duo then went to the rear of the home, pried open a guest bathroom door with a crowbar and then ransacked the master bedroom, stealing multiple watches, cologne, jewelry, U.S. currency, suitcases and other miscellaneous items.<\/p>\n
The two then fled out the front door, deputies said.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the items stolen from the home are worth a total of about $100,000.<\/p>\n
Deputies said Diaz-Castro was located Sunday in the 9900 block of Southwest Eighth Street and provided verbal and written statements implicating himself in the burglary.<\/p>\n
At the time of his arrest, Diaz-Castro was in possession of a gun that had been reported stolen out of Lee County, authorities confirmed.<\/p>\n
The gun was impounded at MDSO\u2019s Hammocks station.<\/p>\n
According to his arrest report, Diaz-Castro, a Cuban national, was previously convicted of a felony in 2019.<\/p>\n
As of Monday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as \u201cto be set.\u201d<\/p>\n
Records show he also faces charges in two other cases, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. <\/p>\n
Anyone with information about the second person allegedly involved in the burglary is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.<\/p>\n
