The Hillsborough County School Board<\/a> will review a policy Tuesday that would require any use, lease, sale or other disposition of district-owned real estate<\/a> to go through a public request-for-proposals<\/a> process, adding new controls on how the district handles land and facilities.<\/p>\n

The proposed policy would mandate that all such transactions be initiated through a competitive RFP process, include a formal recommendation from the superintendent and receive approval from a majority of the board at a public meeting. It would also prohibit land swaps involving district-owned property.<\/p>\n

Current policy places responsibility for real estate transactions with the superintendent and does not require a competitive bidding process.<\/p>\n

The changes would apply to district real estate and are aimed at ensuring transparency, fiscal responsibility and stewardship of public assets.<\/p>\n

The agenda also includes revisions to policies covering student device use, board meeting procedures, exceptional student education<\/a> and district wellness standards.<\/p>\n

The workshop is a discussion session and does not include votes, but items reviewed typically return to the board for formal action.<\/p>\n
