ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Jury selection is underway in the trial of DeMorris Hunter, a convicted killer, charged with the 2002 murder of Theresa Green in Orange County.<\/p>\n
Hunter, 59, faces the prospect of the death penalty if convicted.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors first signaled their intent to seek the death penalty in 2015, the same year Hunter was extradited to Florida following his indictment in Green\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
Hunter had been serving a 110-year sentence in California for the unrelated killing of another woman.<\/p>\n
He has been detained at the Orange County Jail ever since his extradition.<\/p>\n
The case has endured multiple delays that included COVID-related issues and, most recently, a heart attack Hunter suffered.<\/p>\n
Jury selection is expected to last until Thursday. Opening statements are slated to get underway next Monday.<\/p>\n
