A real estate investor was arrested Friday, March 27, 2026, for stealing a $180,000 condominium from a 75-year-old man, the Broward County Property Appraiser said. <\/p>\n

A real estate investor stole a Hollywood condominium from a 75-year-old man who lacked the mental capacity to make decisions or care for himself, the Broward County Property Appraiser said Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The victim, who was not identified, inherited the condo from his parents over 40 years ago, property appraiser Marty Kiar said in a statement.<\/p>\n
A Florida Department of Children and Families investigator found in April 2024 \u201cthat the victim lived alone and was in an extremely fragile condition,\u201d the appraiser said. The victim\u2019 sister agreed to help him with household needs and to allow him to receive services through DCF.<\/p>\n
About two months later, the victim signed over his deed in a legal document prepared by Igor Shlafman, 54, of Parkland, the appraiser said. It transferred ownership of his condo to a company managed by Shlafman.<\/p>\n
Shlafman is accused of selling the man\u2019s condo for $180,000 in August 2025. The victim did not receive any of the $162,000 in net proceeds from the sale.<\/p>\n
Investigators also discovered the victim was removed from his condo, so that Shlafman could sell it, the appraiser said. He was relocated to a Dania Beach mobile home.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen investigators met with the victim, they found the home to be nearly uninhabitable, filled with debris, the kitchen had inoperable appliances, the refrigerator and pantry lacked food and uneaten food was left on the dining room table,\u201d the appraiser said. \u201cThe sleeping conditions consisted of only a box spring and mattress with soiled sheets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shlafman was arrested Friday and accused of exploitation of an elderly person over $100,000 and unlawfully filing false documents, Broward court records show. He didn\u2019t appear in jail records or have an attorney listed yet.<\/p>\n
