Ron DeSantis signed two bills into law during a press conference in Tampa on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The governor signed <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Committees\/BillSummaries\/2026\/html\/445\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 445<\/a>, also known as \u201cMissy\u2019s Law,\u201d and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2026\/1159\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 1159<\/a>, which DeSantis said are aimed at strengthening protections for children in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>HB 445 adds any violation related to computer pornography or child exploitation to the list of dangerous crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Watch press conference and bill signing<\/p>\n<p>Full press conference: DeSantis signs &#8216;Missy&#8217;s Law&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The bill also requires courts to remand a person who is convicted of a dangerous crime to custody immediately pending sentencing without the possibility of being released on bond. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, we proposed Missy&#8217;s Law after the tragic murder of five-year-old Missy Mogle at the hands of a convicted, abusive pedophile who was allowed to remain out on bond by Judge Tiffany Baker,\u201d said Attorney General James Uthmeier.<\/p>\n<p>According to the bill summary,<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2026\/1159\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> HB 1159 <\/a>replaces the term &#8220;child pornography&#8221; with the term &#8220;child sexual abuse material,&#8221; increases penalties for crimes related to child sexual abuse material, establishes mandatory minimum prison sentences for certain offenses committed by adults and creates a life felony for the aggravated exploitation of a child under the age of 12.<\/p>\n<p>The laws will go into effect on July 1.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/REBECCA.PETIT.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Suspect arrested for murder of Bartow man found in &#8216;pool of blood&#8217;: PCSO<\/p>\n<p>Polk County Sheriff&#8217;s Office (PCSO) announced it arrested the suspect involved in the murder of a 56-year-old Bartow man found in a &#8220;pool of blood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Arrest in &#8216;violent death&#8217; of Florida man found in &#8216;pool of blood&#8217;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 Florida Gov.
