TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A curbside concert at Buck Lake Elementary helped to kick off PBJ PLZ! 2025 and PBJ PLZ! 2026 is coming soon!<\/p>\n
WCTV\u2019S annual peanut butter and jelly drive starts Thursday, April 2 at schools across Leon County. This will mark PBJ PLZ!\u2019s 10th year!<\/p>\n
Leon County School children fill bins and bellies one jar of peanut butter and one jar of jelly at a time.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year our kids show up,\u201d Superintendent Rocky Hanna said, \u201cand they\u2019re helping each other. It warms my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
What students have accomplished to date is remarkable. <\/p>\n
9 tons of PBJ and $42,000 in donations last year alone. And since the start? More than 49 tons of peanut butter and jelly and more than $300,000 for Second Harvest.<\/p>\n
All donations go to help hungry children during the summer when they cannot count on meals at school. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s the children\u2019s connection to their local food bank and to the needs of their classmates through peanut butter,\u201d Second Harvest CEO Monique Ellsworth said.<\/p>\n
PBJ PLZ! is a tangible, affordable way for kids to help other kids.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s designed to spark conversations about hunger in our community and encourage people, young and old, to give during the hungry summer season. <\/p>\n
This year – we\u2019re going big. We have set a goal of ten tons of peanut butter and jelly and we\u2019re hoping to top $50,000 in donations. <\/p>\n
\u201cI hope that this year we blow all of our dreams, what we imagine could happen out of the water,\u201d Ellsworth said. \u201cI hope this is met with celebration district wide, that there\u2019s no family that isn\u2019t touched by this either as they receive the peanut butter and jelly or they help gather the peanut butter and jelly.\u201d<\/p>\n
