MIAMI \u2014 A man accused of stealing woman\u2019s gold chain worth nearly $20,000 was arrested while wearing the chain. <\/p>\n
Miami police took Jaylyn Coleman, 30, of Miami Gardens, into custody on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest form, the victim and Coleman were at the Gale Miami Hotel and Residences, located downtown at 159 NE Sixth St., on Jan. 5 when the victim said after she got out of the shower, she noticed her purse open, a gold Cuban link chain missing and Coleman, who had been there when she entered the shower, gone. <\/p>\n
The victim said she called Coleman, who police said told the victim not to return to Miami, stating, \u201cThat\u2019s what I do, I take things,\u201d before hanging up. <\/p>\n
Soon after, police said Coleman again contacted the victim to tell her again not to come back.<\/p>\n
Police said the victim purchased the chain for $18,697.99 and provided a receipt as proof. <\/p>\n
The following day, the victim noticed Coleman in a photo on a jeweler\u2019s Instagram page, so she contacted the jeweler, who was identified as Joey.<\/p>\n
According to police, the jeweler, who\u2019s based out of the The Village Flea Market & Mall at 7900 NW 27th Ave., said Coleman came into his store trying to sell a gold chain, but was acting suspiciously, repeatedly asking \u201chow much will I get for this?\u201d while insisting that the chain be tested.<\/p>\n
Wanting to get rid of Coleman, the jeweler told him the chain was fake, police said.<\/p>\n
The same day, the victim told police she received a text message from an unknown number stating, \u201cyou trynna make n—-s beef over a fake chain is insane girl you better leave me alone,\u201d according to an arrest form.<\/p>\n
In addition to obtaining surveillance footage that corroborated the victim\u2019s story, she also provided detectives photos from Coleman\u2019s Instagram account that showed him wearing the chain, police said. <\/p>\n
Coleman is facing a felony charge of grand theft. As of Thursday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a bond of $2,500. <\/p>\n
