his 1-year-old overdosed on fentanyl,\u00a0<\/a>according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.<\/p>\nInvestigators said 31-year-old Rayshawn Smith sold various kinds of drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, between May 13, 2025, and Jan. 14, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On Nov. 13, 2025, while in the sole care of Smith, his 1-year-old child ingested and overdosed on fentanyl, requiring life-saving measures at the hospital, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. At the time, officers said the child survived after undergoing “significant” medical treatment.<\/p>\n
An investigation led law enforcement to execute a search warrant at Smith’s house on Jan. 14, 2026. They reportedly recovered drugs, guns and drug paraphernalia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Smith was arrested at a different location in his car, where authorities said they found additional drugs and drug packaging materials.<\/p>\n
Smith was charged with distribution of a controlled substance resulting in great bodily injury, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, drug distribution, and possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.<\/p>\n
If convicted on all counts, Smith faces a maximum sentence of life in federal prison.<\/p>\n
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the St. Petersburg Police Department.
