TALLAHASSEE, Fla. \u2014\u00a0Florida A&M University alumna Rae\u2019Kwan Bostic is turning her passion for music into
\n a dynamic career in entertainment, proving that persistence and preparation can open
\n doors to unexpected opportunities.<\/p>\n
A graduate of FAMU\u2019s College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (CSSAH), Bostic has taken her talents from the classroom to the stage, most recently stepping
\n into the role of Princess Tiana aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship \u2014 a pivotal moment
\n in her journey as a performer.<\/p>\n
Raised in a family deeply rooted in FAMU tradition, Bostic was immersed in music from
\n an early age. As one of eight children in a family of 10, she grew up in a household
\n where discipline and performance were part of daily life, shaped by two FAMU alumni
\n parents connected to the Marching \u201c100.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad taught me how to play saxophone originally,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cWe\u2019d wake up some
\n summers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. just playing our instruments\u2026 no TV. Then after that, nap time, lunch, go outside, and practice the instrument again.\u201d<\/p>\n

That structured upbringing shaped her work ethic and prepared her for the demands
\n of college life. At FAMU, Bostic balanced a rigorous schedule as a member of the FAMU
\n Jazz Band, a song leader for the Marching \u201c100,\u201d and a songbird for Delta Sigma Theta
\n Sorority, Inc.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt takes discipline and practice,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cI would be singing for about six
\n to seven hours a day. That was my routine, even during college.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her sister, Jada Bostic, a current member of the Marching \u201c100,\u201d said Bostic\u2019s presence extends far beyond the stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you haven\u2019t met Rae\u2019Kwan, you\u2019d think she is very shy and quiet but that\u2019s only
\n at first glance,\u201d Jada Bostic said. \u201cHer reserved nature balances out her huge personality
\n that she showcases on stage. She is the most kind and gentle spirit, with a standard
\n of excellence that doesn\u2019t falter for anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now performing as Princess Tiana, Bostic has expanded beyond her musical training
\n into theatrical performance, embracing the challenge of fully embodying a character
\n both vocally and physically.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not much of a theater kid,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cIt was my professor, Dr. Kilgore, who
\n really challenged me. Disney came to campus, and she encouraged me to audition, even
\n though she knew I wasn\u2019t initially interested in musical theater. I loved the music
\n and the acting part was new for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
That willingness to step outside of her comfort zone ultimately led her to new opportunities
\n and growth as a performer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think something like Disney helps get me out of my shell,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cIt\u2019s not
\n just singing, it\u2019s feeling the moment, being in character and really living in the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bostic\u2019s portrayal of Princess Tiana also connects her to a broader legacy. FAMU alumna
\n Anika Noni Rose originally voiced Tiana in Disney\u2019s\u00a0\u201cThe Princess and the Frog,\u201d making the role especially meaningful.<\/p>\n
\u201cContinuing the legacy in all parts is just an honor,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cIt\u2019s been very
\n humbling and rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her journey to that moment, however, was not without challenges. After graduating
\n from FAMU, Bostic moved to Atlanta, where she worked in regional theater before relocating
\n to New York City to pursue performance opportunities. For months, she auditioned relentlessly
\n before finally receiving the call that would change her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI auditioned all last year\u2026 about 43 auditions from January to September,\u201d Bostic
\n said. \u201cIt was a constant \u2018no, no, no.\u2019 But if you love what you do, you\u2019ll keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bostic credits her inspiration to legendary artists such as Whitney Houston and Beyonc\u00e9,
\n as well as the support of her family especially her older sister, Cori Renee Bostic,
\n FAMU\u2019s first female drum major.<\/p>\n
\u201cWatching my sister maneuver through life has been really influential,\u201d Bostic said.
\n \u201cIt\u2019s like we switched personality traits and now I\u2019m the extroverted one because I speak to kids all day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jada Bostic said her sister\u2019s journey has been a powerful example for their entire
\n family.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe teaches us that we really can do whatever our heart desires,\u201d Jada Bostic said.
\n \u201cHer path wasn\u2019t traditional, and people doubted her when it came to music, but she
\n never doubted herself. Now she\u2019s working full-time as Princess Tiana. That shows what hard work and consistency can do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Beyond her performance career, Bostic also holds a special place within her family dynamic. As the second oldest of eight
\n siblings, she is known not only for her talent, but for preserving family traditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s the keeper of our family recipes,\u201d Jada Bostic said. \u201cShe learned from our
\n grandmother and grand aunt before they passed, and she plays a part in how we eat,
\n what we eat and when. I don\u2019t know what a family function would be like if Rae\u2019Kwan
\n wasn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n
With her career continuing to evolve, Bostic hopes her story encourages others, especially young women to remain steadfast in their goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want people to be fearless and go after what they want, no matter how long the
\n process is or how difficult it may get,\u201d Bostic said. \u201cIf you see it down the road,
\n keep chasing it and don\u2019t give up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jada Bostic describes her sister as a quiet and humble superstar.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe never let her \u2018late\u2019 start stop her. People need to see that everyone\u2019s journey
\n is different, and if you stay focused, you\u2019ll find your path,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bostic\u2019s journey reflects the power of perseverance and the courage to trust one\u2019s
\n path. From long hours of practice to countless auditions, her story is a reminder
\n that purpose does not always arrive on time, but when it does, it is undeniable.<\/p>\n
