Florida State University will\u00a0celebrate the contributions and achievements of its graduate and professional students during the annual\u00a0national\u00a0Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week, held April 6-10.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The weeklong celebration highlights the essential role\u00a0graduate\u00a0and professional students play in advancing teaching, research, creative\u00a0activity\u00a0and service at\u00a0FSU.\u00a0Students from across disciplines are invited to take part in a series of events focused on recognition, professional development,\u00a0wellness\u00a0and community connection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cGraduate and professional students are central to the mission and success of Florida State University,\u201d said\u00a0Steve McDowell, interim dean of The Graduate School.\u00a0\u201cThis\u00a0week is an opportunity to honor their\u00a0accomplishments,\u00a0support their goals and express our appreciation for the many ways they strengthen our campus.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Celebration of Graduate Student Excellence\u00a0<\/p>\n

This event honors outstanding graduate students from\u00a0across the university. It\u00a0will feature remarks by\u00a0keynote\u00a0speaker Carrie Cooper, dean of University Libraries, and recognize the winners of the Graduate Student Leadership and\u00a0Graduate Student Research and Creativity\u00a0awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Financial Wellness Workshop: Retirement Planning \u2013 Determining Your Future (food provided)\u00a0<\/p>\n

This workshop focuses on long-term financial planning and retirement preparedness and is open to\u00a0all\u00a0FSU\u00a0students.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Digital Symposium: \u201cIlluminations\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Reading\u2011Writing Center, this symposium\u00a0showcases\u00a0digital\u00a0poster presentations featuring\u00a0students\u00a0from all the\u00a0programs within the\u00a0Department of\u00a0English.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three Minute Thesis\u00a0(3MT)\u00a0Competition<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

3-5:30 p.m.
College of Medicine, Peaden Auditorium\u00a0<\/p>\n

This\u00a0is an international research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland, Australia, that challenges graduate students to present their research and its significance in just three minutes for a non\u2011specialist audience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The competition is open to enrolled FSU master\u2019s and doctoral students who have completed at least 18 credit hours and are presenting research conducted as part of their graduate program at FSU.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Career Opportunities for\u00a0Ph.D.s\u00a0in a Government Research Setting\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hosted by\u00a0the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy\u00a0in partnership with The Graduate School, this session features representatives from the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability, a research arm of the Florida Legislature.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The reception celebrates student achievement in the visual\u00a0arts.\u00a0The university community is welcome to\u00a0enjoy the art and light refreshments in the beautiful HSF House, as well as vote on student artwork for a \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice Award.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
