The husband who allegedly murdered the vice chair of Florida\u2019s Democratic Party admitted to committing the grisly killing<\/a> to his uncle because he \u201ccouldn\u2019t take it anymore\u201d \u2014 while he hid his crimes from his wife\u2019s worried colleagues.<\/p>\n

Stephen Bowen allegedly used a pillow case as a makeshift silencer as he blasted three shotgun rounds into Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, 38, inside their home late Tuesday night, WPLG reported,<\/a> citing arrest documents.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old suspected gunman then wrapped up his wife\u2019s corpse with blankets and a garbage bag, leaving the body in a second-floor bedroom while he slept downstairs, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

At around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Bowen fled to his uncle\u2019s home, where he admitted \u201che did something to (his wife)\u201d\u00a0and revealed \u201cshe was not alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bowen\u2019s uncle pushed for his nephew to elaborate on what happened when he copped to shooting his wife and covering up the body.<\/p>\n

Bowen attempted to get his uncle to hold onto a gun bag for a couple of weeks, \u201cbut warned him that he would need a pair of gloves or a bag,\u201d according to WPLG.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen asked why (he killed her), Stephen Bowen said that he \u2018couldn\u2019t take it anymore,\u2019\u201d the report stated.<\/p>\n

The day before Bowen allegedly told his mom that he had a \u201cpanic attack at work\u201d and needed to talk to his wife that night.<\/p>\n

In the morning after the tragedy, Bowen pretended he didn\u2019t know where his wife was, while concerned City Hall staffers reached out to inquire about her whereabouts when she failed to arrive for an early meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi Stephen! Luwam here. I\u2019m trying to reach Nancy. Can you pls ask her to call me?\u201d Coral Springs Commission Relationship Manager Luwam Ghermay wrote to Bowen.<\/p>\n

Ghermay had received a message from the vice mayor\u2019s number at around 8 a.m. regarding \u201cDiscussion Items.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t known if the initial message had been sent by Bowen or if his wife had scheduled to send it before her death.<\/p>\n

\u201cTexted her,\u201d Bowen replied. \u201cShe is not picking up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is she? Her car is not at home,\u201d he added, according to the US Sun.<\/a><\/p>\n

Police arrived at the couple\u2019s Coral Springs home at 10:20 a.m. but didn\u2019t answer until after speaking with the uncle around 2 p.m., when he revealed the gruesome crime scene inside.<\/p>\n

Officials had tracked Bowen down to an apartment complex in nearby Plantation, where he was found handing off the gun bag and ammo boxes to a fellow Freemason, police said.<\/p>\n

The unidentified Mason was unaware of the murder until Bowen and he were taken into custody, and Bowen shouted: \u201cOh s\u2013t, they\u2019re here for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bowen was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and felony evidence tampering charges. <\/p>\n

He is being held in the Broward County Jail without a bond, according to jail records viewed by The Post.<\/p>\n
