{"id":217492,"date":"2026-04-03T13:19:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T13:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/217492\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T13:19:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T13:19:27","slug":"gofundme-set-up-for-14-year-old-cape-girls-family-after-devastating-scooter-truck-accident-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/217492\/","title":{"rendered":"GoFundMe set up for 14-year-old Cape girl\u2019s family after devastating scooter\/truck accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A GoFundMe page is continuing for a Cape Coral teen who was struck by a truck on her scooter recently and hospitalized in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>The GoFundMe page organized by Monica Piscopo, states that Stella Piscopo, 14, was hospitalized in critical condition at John Hopkin\u2019s All Children\u2019s Hospital in St. Petersburg. <\/p>\n<p>Her injuries included a severe brain injury, broken leg, cracked pelvis, a bruised lung, an injured liver, and countless bruises and abrasions, the page states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStella\u2019s hospital is two hours from our home in Cape Coral, and she will likely be there for up to two months,\u201d the page states. \u201cThis means our family faces daily travel, lodging, and meal expenses on top of the emotional and financial strain of her injuries. Every contribution will help us stay by Stella\u2019s side and focus on her healing, rather than worrying about how we\u2019ll manage these extra costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday afternoon, $9,203 has been raised. Donations can be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-for-stellas-recovery-journey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">gofundme.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of her friends, a freshman at Oasis High School, spoke during Cape Coral City Council\u2019s citizens input last Wednesday to ask for  possible short- and long-term solutions \u2013 as a voice for her friend.<\/p>\n<p>A long-term solution she proposed is a pedestrian bridge at Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Parkway, and the short-term solution of having some sort of gate that opens and closes preventing someone to cross the road at the wrong time.<\/p>\n<p>City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn said the student who spoke during citizen\u2019s input emailed him the night prior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had the opportunity to speak with several of my staff members, and Lee County Department of Transportation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ilczyszyn said he has been advised by the county that there is no audible ADA device at that intersection \u2013 the signal that loudly projects wait.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are going to be exploring adding that to the intersection,\u201d he said, as it is in close proximity to Cape Coral High School and a lot of children use it. \u201cThere is some possible movement there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ilczyszyn said he is also putting the student in contact with one of their traffic engineers that might be able to assist her with looking at the Florida Greenbook Design Standards to accommodate some type of physical device that is acceptable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllow her to explore that as an option,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor John Gunter said it is something they definitely have to get Lee County involved with because it is a county roadway and intersection.
