Beginning next week, the weekly Police Blotter will be rebranded as The Sanibel Community Safety Update and will transition to a monthly publication.

This change follows an internal evaluation of the longstanding blotter format and reflects the city’s continued commitment to transparency, community engagement, and meaningful public communication.

While the traditional Police Blotter primarily provided a chronological listing of reported incidents and calls for service, the new format will offer broader context, educational information, and proactive safety messaging. The updated format is designed to:

– Highlight community safety trends and noteworthy activity

– Provide prevention tips and public safety reminders

– Summarize call activity

– Offer additional context when appropriate

– Improve clarity and readability for residents and visitors

The SPD remains fully committed to transparency and keeping our community informed. The new Sanibel Community Safety Update allows us to provide more meaningful information, emphasize prevention, and better reflect the strong partnership between our officers and the community we serve.

The city recognizes that the weekly Police Blotter has been a valued source of information for many residents. This rebranding does not change the city’s commitment to public access to information. Public records and call data will continue to be available in accordance with Florida law.

The Sanibel Community Safety Update will be issued monthly to subscribers of city emails and will be available on the SPD’s page on the city’s website.

William Dalton is police chief of the Sanibel Police Department.

   /News 1 / 2 CITY OF SANIBEL William Dalton…

[14
209,211,210
post-217687","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cape-coral","tag-cape-coral","tag-cape-coral-headlines","tag-cape-coral-news
["GET
