Dawn Moore and Zack Stover planned a beach wedding behind their hotel on Jacksonville Beach. Moore said they knew the beach was a public space \u2014 but they weren\u2019t expecting to share it with a massive crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell then I\u2019m upstairs getting ready and one of my sisters comes up and she\u2019s like there is a whole bunch of people out on the beach,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n
Moore said their photographer soon told them it was Senior Skip Day \u2014 an unsanctioned gathering that had drawn large crowds of students to the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the cops had told our photographer that we might want to go down a mile,\u201d Moore said. \u201cI was like there\u2019s no way that we can do that\u2026 we\u2019re all barefoot\u2026 and I have on a really tight wedding dress.”<\/p>\n
Instead, the couple decided to go ahead with the plan.<\/p>\n
When Moore and Stover stepped onto the beach, \u201call the teenagers just started cheering and clapping,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n
The crowd reaction was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, racking up hundreds of thousands of views and turning the wedding into an unexpected feel-good moment tied to a day that had also generated serious concerns for law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Moore said what surprised her most was what happened once the ceremony began.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey got quiet and they were really respectful\u2026 it turned out to be really good,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The couple said they expected about 140 guests, but they estimate the beach crowd watching from behind was much larger. Stover told News4JAX it looked like about 800 to 900 people.<\/p>\n
Moore said some of the teens later told them it was the first wedding they\u2019d ever seen.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought it was wonderful,\u201d Moore said. \u201cI went through a lot of weddings when I was younger and it made me want and know what I wanted when I got older and I\u2019m happy to have given them that.\u201d<\/p>\n
News4JAX spoke with Moore and Stover over Zoom while they were on their honeymoon at Disney. Looking back, Moore said the unexpected cheering and support is what she\u2019ll remember most.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou never expect that at your wedding,\u201d she said. \u201cThank you to all the seniors that were there on senior skip day. You all made it amazing. Very memorable.\u201d<\/p>\n
