Well, on St. Patrick’s Day, it’s always the “luck of the Irish,” as they say.<\/p>\n
Diane and Jack McGuire hosted their annual St. Patrick’s Day party at the Key Biscayne Tennis Association facility Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
With a forecast calling for 70% rain, things looked gloomy throughout the day, but Jack wasn’t deterred, even forgoing ordering a tent for the outdoor festivities.<\/p>\n
“The Irish are very lucky; it will not rain on St. Patrick’s Day!” he said.<\/p>\n
He was correct. It turned out to be a beautiful evening with a sea of green attire, tablecloths and party hats.<\/p>\n
Some 75 guests from the Crandon Golf Course and the Key Biscayne Tennis Association were in attendance, enjoying refreshments and music from a Mariachi band, made up of Colombians, that played traditional music as well as \u201cSweet Caroline\u201d to honor McGuire\u2019s granddaughter.<\/p>\n
Geno Marron, the well-known bartender from the Ritz-Carlton’s Dunes Bar, even provided a fun singalong of “Danny Boy.”<\/p>\n
A fabulous array of food and desserts was served by Parties By Pat. Melted cheese, pastrami and corned beef on grilled toast and coconut shrimp were popular choices. Delicious desserts included Irish Apple Cake and Creamy Bailey’s cheesecake.<\/p>\n
“This is one of the few times that Crandon Park golfers and Key Biscayne tennis players get to enjoy each other’s company,” said KBTA president Jon Garito. “What a night! They know how to throw a St. Patrick’s Day party.”<\/p>\n
One of the celebrities on hand was Eliott Rodriguez (a KBTA tennis player), who is running for Congress. He was enjoying the music and mingling with friends, answering questions about his retirement from CBS and his decision to enter the political field.<\/p>\n
McGuire and his wife, snowbirds from New Haven, Conn., since 1983, originally started the annual celebration inside their condo until the attendance simply outgrew it. That’s when Garito suggested moving it to the KBTA facility five years ago.<\/p>\n
