Hidden behind the barrier wall of I-175, Campbell Park is rich in Black history. St. Petersburg\u2019s first \u201cNegro park,\u201d it was home to the Negro Baseball League, the first circus in our city and where Jesse Owens raced against a vehicle in 1941. Neighbors and organizations hosted community events both large and small, from dances to teas. And then there are the little known stories unique to Campbell Park. St. Petersburg Black History Tours is please to offer this impactful tour. It was a finalist for Best of the Bay in 2025.<\/p>\n

Historian, Josette Green\u2019s meticulous research, aided by historic photos and maps, helps tell the story of a park originally dedicated in 1950 \u201cfor the permanent use by Negroes.\u201d Learn how the past has influenced the development of Campbell Park and what the future holds for this often overlooked community gathering space through a leisurely 1\/2-mile walk. Two hours long.<\/p>\n
