Austin FC<\/a>\u00a0was the better team for 75 minutes Saturday vs. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.<\/p>\n

It then had to hold on for the final 15 minutes to take a point.<\/p>\n

Guilherme Biro and Jayden Nelson scored for the Verde & Black as they produced a 2-2 draw with the defending MLS champions in the first game at Miami’s Nu Stadium.<\/p>\n

Austin FC (1-2-3, 6 points) was the much better side in the first half, when it had two shots hit the post and got unlucky in the game’s first minute after\u00a0 a penalty wasn’t awarded following Christian Ramirez being taken down in the box. It continued its solid play early in the second half, including Nelson’s goal in the 53rd minute that gave it a 2-1 lead, then started to wear down.<\/p>\n

Miami (3-1-2, 11 points) played the game’s final stretch with only three defenders and constantly pushed the ball forward. After Suarez tied the goal in the 83rd minute, Austin FC survived a final onslaught by the hosts, which included goalie Brad Stuver making an impressive diving save. Miami outshot Austin 27-8.<\/p>\n

But considering the Verde & Black were massive underdogs, one had to bet $295 on Miami just to win $100, and were without key midfielders Owen Wolff and Dani Pereira, this is a good result for Austin FC.<\/p>\n

After hosting the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, the schedule becomes more manageable for Austin FC following a three-game stretch of playing Miami in between the two Los Angeles clubs.<\/p>\n

Austin FC holds on in the final 15 minutes and survives an onslaught from Inter Miami to earn a road draw against the defending MLS champions.<\/p>\n

Jayden Nelson has been excellent in the second half. On a breakaway, he’s barely denied at the top of the box after a Miami defender pokes the ball away. Nelson ran onto a great ball from Besard Sabovic.<\/p>\n

Miami is throwing everything forward as it moves to a three-man backline and brings on forward German Berterame. It feels like the Verde & Black will be defending the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

Joseph Rosales starts a counterattack by winning the ball from Lionel Messi. Myrto Uzuni eventually finds a wide-open Jayden Nelson streaking down the middle of the field, who then scores an easy goal to give Austin FC the lead.<\/p>\n

The game has a slower pace to open the second half. Miami has dominated possession and had the better run of play early on.<\/p>\n

Playing arguably its best half of the season, Austin FC is tied with Miami at the break after Guilherme Biro and Lionel Messi scored. The Verde & Black were the better side, were a bit unlucky to not be awarded a penalty in the first minute and hit the post twice. They generally had the better run of play and are taking advantage of some wildly poor defense by Miami.<\/p>\n

However, Austin FC is still tied, and with a bench short of viable options, it will be interesting to see how the second half goes.<\/p>\n

After some fancy dribbling by Lionel Messi gives Mateo Silvetti a wide-open shot, Brad Stuver makes his first big save of the night.<\/p>\n

Austin FC has come to play. The Verde & Black have been the slightly better side through the first 30 minutes. A concern is that designated player Facundo Torres left the field with a possible groin injury after slipping. Torres was not subbed out and can return.<\/p>\n

Myrto Uzuni is having an excellent game. His shot from just outside the box barely misses the upper 90 on the far post.<\/p>\n

A long ball over the top to Joseph Rosales gives Austin FC a brief breakaway. Rosales lays it off to Facundo Torres, whose shot from just inside the box is deflected.<\/p>\n

Another corner eventually ends with Guilherme Biro’s header going over the goal.<\/p>\n

A $100 bet on the Verde & Black to win would net one $650, while one would have to bet $295 on a Miami victory just to get $100.<\/p>\n

With the game being the opening of Miami’s new stadium and Owen Wolff and Dani Pereira being out for Austin FC, this isn’t a surprise.<\/p>\n
