{"id":219873,"date":"2026-04-05T22:18:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T22:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/219873\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T22:18:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T22:18:18","slug":"2027-athlete-dayon-cooper-commits-to-florida-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/219873\/","title":{"rendered":"2027 athlete Dayon Cooper commits to Florida State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/high-school\/south-pittsburg-south-pittsburg-tn-19251\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Pittsburg<\/a> (Tenn.) three-star athlete <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/dayon-cooper-258603\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dayon Cooper<\/a> has committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/florida-state-seminoles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida State<\/a>, according to Rivals\u2019 Hayes Fawcett.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is in Tallahassee for a spring visit this weekend and he\u2019s leaving as a member of the Seminoles\u2019 2027 recruiting class.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper is the No. 59 athlete and No. 33 player in Tennessee in the 2027 cycle, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/rankings\/industry-player\/football\/2027\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rivals Industry Ranking<\/a>, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He\u2019s also the No. 1,032 prospect overall.<\/p>\n<p>Rivals ranks Cooper as the No. 14 athlete and No. 20 recruit in the Volunteer State. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/mike-norvell-131695\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Norvell<\/a> and the FSU staff have recruited Cooper as a cornerback. Tennessee and Vanderbilt have been near the top of his blossoming recruitment, too, but the \u2018Noles have nabbed his pledge ahead of his senior season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love everything about Florida State. The coaching and culture are great, and I love Coach\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/blue-adams-133948\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Adams<\/a>. I also love the history of the school,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/ath-dayon-cooper-intel-tight-race-between-three-schools-with-one-in-the-lead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper told Rivals\u2019 Chad Simmons<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper does it all at the high school level. As a junior for South Pittsburg, he tallied 35 total tackles, threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a pair of touchdowns, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/tn\/south-pittsburg\/south-pittsburg-pirates\/athletes\/dayon-cooper\/football\/stats\/?careerid=i3ggl6q74ndl5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MaxPreps<\/a>. He\u2019s got five passing TDs, 12 rushing TDs, four receiving TDs and 65 tackles to his name at the prep level.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper is commit No. 7 for FSU this cycle, adding to a class that ranks No. 20 in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He joins a pledge list that already included two other defensive backs in Ruskin (Fla.) Lennard four-star safety <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/mekhi-williams-241579\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mekhi Williams<\/a> and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.)
