{"id":220552,"date":"2026-04-06T14:12:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T14:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/220552\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T14:12:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T14:12:08","slug":"drought-leaves-jacksonville-10-inches-short-on-rainfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/220552\/","title":{"rendered":"Drought leaves Jacksonville 10 inches short on rainfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2026\/03\/23\/drought-florida\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The drought<\/a> has worsened and expanded across the Southeast, including Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Although South Florida has experienced more cloudy periods and passing showers \u2014 with some areas accumulating between 1 and 3 inches \u2014 the drought has expanded slightly toward the metro areas of Southeast Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The effects are being reported across northern Florida, where low water levels are limiting recreational use along the Chipola, Santa Fe, and Suwannee Rivers.\u00a0Over the past month, much of the region has experienced below-average rainfall, contributing to worsening dryness.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/sercc.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southeast Regional Climate Center<\/a> also indicate that the past six months have been notably dry across large portions of the Southeast, with rainfall deficits of 13.51 inches in Tallahassee and 9.98 inches in Jacksonville. Over the last 30 days, most of the central, northern and Panhandle regions have experienced a rainfall deficit of 1 to 4 inches.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1775484728_393_.webp\" alt=\"Severe, extreme, and exceptional drought categories increased in coverage across Florida in the last week.\"\/>Severe, extreme, and exceptional drought categories increased in coverage across Florida in the last week. This past week, temperatures across western Florida were 5 to 10 degrees above average, while those in the eastern areas were near average. The difference lies in the winds, which have predominantly come from the east, allowing the \u201ccooler\u201d range to remain focused along Florida\u2019s East Coast.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2026\/03\/31\/low-pressure-jea-customers-drought\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Low water pressure: The drought\u2019s effects trickle on<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that water restrictions are still in place, especially in the western and northern areas of Florida. South Florida will continue to experience passing showers.
