\nBIG ARTS will host its Family & Friends Day on April 11 at its campus on Sanibel, featuring eco-educator and PBS star Rockin’ Eco Hero Steve Trash.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available for a free islands event that will feature an eco-educator and PBS star.<\/p>\n

BIG ARTS will host its Family & Friends Day on April 11 beginning at 4 p.m. at its Sanibel campus. It will include Rockin\u2019 Eco Hero Steve Trash, plus live performers, art projects, food, drinks and more.<\/p>\n

It is the third year for the annual event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started this to open BIG ARTS to the community and to the families in the community,\u201d Marketing Director Meghan Govoni said, explaining that their seasonal programming is typically geared more toward adults. \u201cSo this is for school-aged kids and families of all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will open with a show by Trash in the Christensen Performance Hall.<\/p>\n

The star of a nationwide PBS kids science show, \u201cSteve Trash Science,\u201d he offers an award-winning blend of magic, music and eco-fun. Trash has appeared on national and international TV shows, including CBS \u201cThis Morning,\u201d ESPN \u201cOutdoors\u201d and VH1 \u201cTop 20 Countdown.\u201d He was recently interviewed on Levar Burtons\u2019 \u201cReading Rainbow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s family-friendly and it\u2019s kid-friendly. And it\u2019s a little different than we\u2019ve done the past two years,\u201d she said, noting that the first event featured a circus and last year\u2019s event involved an animal show.<\/p>\n

After the show, there will be outdoor festivities in the Malone Family Sculpture Garden.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have Citrus Circus. They bring fun entertainment,\u201d Govoni said, adding that there will be a stilt walker and a hula hoop performer, and the hula hoop person will teach a class on different moves.<\/p>\n

Led by Arts Education Director Aimee Harrisson and The Sanibel School art teacher Erica Sharp, who works with BIG ARTS as a youth instructor, there will be a couple of make-and-take art projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to be running an arts and crafts booth,\u201d she said, explaining that in previous years the activities were more kid-focused, but this year\u2019s offerings will be aimed more at the whole family.<\/p>\n

There will also be demonstrations by BIG ARTS instructors and the gift shop artists.<\/p>\n

Rib City will provide a family-friendly spread, plus cookies and brownies for dessert.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be like a make-your-own-slider bar \u2014 pork and chicken \u2014 along with sides,\u201d Govoni said.<\/p>\n

Refreshments, including water and soda, will be available.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always do a kids\u2019 mocktail,\u201d she added. \u201cSomething on theme with the event.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, the galleries and gift shop will be open for attendees to enjoy.<\/p>\n

Stevens Construction is the event sponsor.<\/p>\n

\u201cA huge thank you to them for generously sponsoring us,\u201d Govoni said. \u201cWe\u2019re happy to be working with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

While it is a free event, tickets are required.<\/p>\n

The community is encouraged to secure a seat for the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to spend time with the community, to be together, and to experience something that the community is passionate about with this eco-friendly performance,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s fun for all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s a nice way to kind of cap off the BIG ARTS season,\u201d Govoni added.<\/p>\n
