There Is No Place Like Dome<\/a> chronicles Bruce\u2019s nearly two decades as a Tropicana Field Fan Host.<\/p>\nIn the book, Bruce shared his love of the Trop, of meeting fans that became friends and how it\u2019s the most unique home field in all of Major League Baseball. That\u2019s why when Hurricane Milton tore it down, like many, Bruce was devastated.<\/p>\n
The tattered roof atop the Trop became a symbol for all that was lost during Hurricane Milton\u2019s devastating path across the state. Torn to shreds in the middle of the night, the destruction forced the Rays to play an entire season in the New York Yankees spring training facility. And it took a huge commitment and a lot of hurdles to bring the Rays back home.<\/p>\n

\u201cPurely from a baseball standpoint, home is home,\u201d Rays President of Baseball Operations Erik Neander said. \u201cNot just a roster construction built for a certain building, but home being home is a bigger deal than maybe we appreciated or thought of prior to a year doing it somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n
The team isn’t the only one excited about the return to the Trop. Bruce and his fellow co-workers can\u2019t wait.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t affect or impact what goes on the field, but I hope we have entertained people enough that regardless of the score, they\u2019ve had a good time and they want to come back again,\u201d Bruce said.<\/p>\n
He has missed the fans. He has missed the games. But mostly, he\u2019s missed the Trop and all that it stands for. If these walls could talk, they\u2019d say plenty.<\/p>\n
