{"id":221570,"date":"2026-04-07T05:11:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T05:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/221570\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T05:11:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T05:11:19","slug":"reggie-gaffney-sr-launches-comeback-bid-for-jacksonville-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/221570\/","title":{"rendered":"Reggie Gaffney, Sr. launches comeback bid for Jacksonville City Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>He represented the former District 7 for nearly two full terms. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.gov\/city-council\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Jacksonville City Council<\/a> member <a href=\"https:\/\/dos.elections.myflorida.com\/candidates\/CanDetail.asp?account=89487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Reggie Gaffney Sr.<\/a> has filed to run in District 10 in the 2027 Elections, as he looks to return to the legislative body he served on from 2015 until 2022, when he resigned to pursue a state Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gaffney, a pragmatic Democrat who has worked well with Republicans throughout his political career, told Florida Politics that he was running locally because the people asked him to, and because he was encouraged to do so by many political heavyweights, including term-limited incumbent Ju\u2019Coby Pittman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He had explored a run for the state House to replace Rep.\u00a0Angie Nixon, who is running for United States Senate this cycle and won\u2019t pursue re-election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With Gaffney having passed on that campaign, former Senate Democratic Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/dos.elections.myflorida.com\/candidates\/CanDetail.asp?account=89537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Audrey Gibson<\/a>\u00a0is the sole candidate running in the heavily Democratic district north and west of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His namesake son,\u00a0Reggie Gaffney Jr., currently serves as a Jacksonville City Council member and is running for re-election. There is precedent for a father-son duo, as\u00a0Matt Carlucci and\u00a0Joe Carlucci both serve currently.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-773717 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Current candidates include Democrats\u00a0Keshan Gainey Chambliss,\u00a0Vanessa Cullins Hopkins,\u00a0Geraldine Ford-Hardin, and\u00a0Marsha Shuri McIntyre Lowe. Libertarian\u00a0Jerry Rorabaugh is also running.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The district is the most Democratic in the city, and the aforementioned Nixon, who is running against former Lt. Col. Alex Vindman for the Democratic Senate nomination, has expressed interest in running.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gaffney\u2019s entering the race would complicate that fallback scenario for the three-term legislator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"He represented the former District 7 for nearly two full terms.
