Sometimes, you\u2019ll see someone do something out in the wild, and you have\u00a0to\u00a0ask yourself, \u201cIs that genius, or is that chopped?\u201d Being in college, that question is always cycling through my\u00a0mind.\u00a0So,\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0stop\u00a0and\u00a0ask\u00a0ourselves\u00a0if some\u00a0of the most common FSU canon activities\u00a0a\u00a0gal\u00a0can\u00a0do\u00a0are\u00a0genius\u00a0or\u00a0chopped.<\/p>\n
Tanning\u00a0on\u00a0Landis\u00a0Green: Genius<\/p>\n
Tanning on Landis<\/a>\u00a0may be controversial, but the truth is that anything goes when the UV is eight. We might be in Florida, but we aren\u2019t by a beach. The way I see it, there\u2019s no shame in the Landis tanning game.\u00a0<\/p>\n If the UV hits above seven, it\u2019s only right that we put on our cutest triangle bikinis and hit the Green. Not to mention, someone invested time and money in chlorinating our fountains, so we should be using that for all it\u2019s worth. For these reasons, tanning on Landis is genius.<\/p>\n Being a Regular at the\u00a0Hwc: Chopped<\/p>\n Maybe it\u2019s because I\u2019m a freshman, but illness has been an ever-present\u00a0part\u00a0of\u00a0my\u00a0life\u00a0while\u00a0at\u00a0FSU.\u00a0Even\u00a0when\u00a0I think\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0healthy,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0always\u00a0a\u00a0lingering cough or a slight sniffle that keeps me from being completely at my best.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Health and Wellness Center (HWC) has seen a lot from me: Flu A, a two-hour unstoppable nosebleed, costochondritis, mysterious lingering frat flu<\/a>; I\u2019ve had it all. I think the nice lady at the front desk knows my name and insurance carrier by heart. For these reasons, I have to say being a regular at the HWC is chopped.<\/p>\n Riding a Scooter to\u00a0Class: Genius?<\/p>\n We\u2019ve\u00a0all\u00a0seen\u00a0it,\u00a0maybe\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0done\u00a0it,\u00a0but\u00a0have\u00a0you\u00a0ever\u00a0asked\u00a0yourself\u00a0if\u00a0the\u00a0scooter-riders<\/a>\u00a0may be onto something? If I didn\u2019t care what other people thought, maybe riding a scooter to class would be freeing.\u00a0<\/p>\n As a chronically late student and Mount Diffenbaugh hater, I can\u2019t tell you I blame the people who scooter by me. Maybe in a sense, I hate scooter riders because I envy their confidence. I hesitantly rate riding a scooter to class as genius.<\/p>\n Seeing your Campus\u00a0Celebrity: Chopped<\/p>\n Everyone has one. That person from your orientation group, someone you introduced yourself to during move-in, or a random person in your hall you see everywhere. You don\u2019t know how, but these people will always find you, and it\u2019s never in one of your flattering moments.<\/p>\n Their perception\u00a0of\u00a0you\u00a0is\u00a0built\u00a0up\u00a0by\u00a0awkward\u00a0instances\u00a0where\u00a0they\u00a0see\u00a0you\u00a0stumble\u00a0on\u00a0campus,\u00a0or\u00a0when you\u00a0tell\u00a0the Starbucks\u00a0barista\u00a0\u201cyou,\u00a0too\u201d\u00a0when\u00a0she\u00a0tells\u00a0you\u00a0to\u00a0enjoy\u00a0your\u00a0latte. Out of the moments you might not be able to recover from, this one person was there to witness every single one.\u00a0<\/p>\n This person must think that your whole existence is just embarrassing moments, so seeing your campus celebrity is definitely chopped.<\/p>\n Having High\u00a0Yakarma: Genius<\/p>\n For anyone who doesn\u2019t know, Yakarma is accumulated on\u00a0the anonymous app Yik Yak<\/a>\u00a0and is based on the number of upvotes your posts get. The best part of having high Yakarma is that it\u2019s one of the quietest forms of street credit at FSU. No one knows who wrote the post with 1,500 upvotes, but you can guess.\u00a0<\/p>\n Certain people just have that \u201cI have over 10,000 Yakarma\u201d look to them,\u00a0and\u00a0you\u00a0have\u00a0to\u00a0respect\u00a0it.\u00a0To\u00a0know\u00a0that people\u00a0found\u00a0your\u00a0post\u00a0funny\u00a0time\u00a0and\u00a0time\u00a0again\u00a0is a\u00a0silent\u00a0but\u00a0beautiful\u00a0form\u00a0of\u00a0being\u00a0cool\u00a0at\u00a0FSU, so having\u00a0high\u00a0Yakarma\u00a0is\u00a0genius.<\/p>\n There are so many things that are core to the FSU girl experience. Sometimes, you have to dwell on whether these things are chopped or genius, but truthfully, everything can be chopped and everything can be genius depending on how you spin it.
