Now it\u2019s reopening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pandemic pop-up that enticed diners with huge slabs of slow-smoked brisket, spare ribs and sausage is making a comeback.<\/p>\n<p>La Traila Barbecue, which popped up around South Florida in 2020 at spots like Unbranded Brewing in Hialeah, is opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in South Miami. The restaurant is scheduled to open April 15.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first brick-and-mortar for the brand, led by Austin-born Mel Rodriguez. He and NFL player Isaiah McKenzie, a former star at American Heritage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/miami-com\/restaurants\/article251679683.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:opened the first La Traila in Miami Lakes in 2021;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">opened the first La Traila in Miami Lakes in 2021<\/a>, wowing customers with their brisket, pulled pork, smoked ribs and jalape\u00f1o sausage.<\/p>\n<p>That spot closed after a couple of years, but Rodriguez never stopped thinking about barbecue.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Mel Rodriguez slow-smokes the meat in an M&amp;M BBQ Company pit.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"759\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/343d5a9655f76e513c5415ce9917a007.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mel Rodriguez slow-smokes the meat in an M&amp;M BBQ Company pit.<\/p>\n<p> (Binson Renda)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, this time it\u2019s personal,\u201d he said of the new restaurant opening. \u201cIt\u2019s Texas metal, Miami energy and every lesson I\u2019ve learned on one plate. We\u2019re not repeating. We\u2019re raising the standard and pushing the boundaries of what barbecue means in a city that\u2019s finally becoming a true culinary destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Located in the former space of Kalimera, a Mediterranean restaurant that specialized in Greek and Lebanese food, the new La Traila seats 160 diners inside and out, with picnic-style seating. You\u2019ll find the evidence in smoked Tejano churrasco skillet and the smoked beef cheek barbacoa, in the Tejas tacos, brisket burnt ends queso fundido and a smoke-ring scrap burger.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant will also serve Texas-style breakfast tacos every morning, homemade tortillas with smoked meat, eggs, potatoes and salsa.
