TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will investigate possible \u201cforever chemical\u201d contamination in the Woodville area, according to the department. <\/p>\n
The announcement comes after a group of doctors, geologists and local commissioners raised concerns about PFAS<\/a>, believing one source is the City of Tallahassee\u2019s wastewater spray field.<\/p>\n Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor and City of Tallahassee Commissioner Jeremy Matlow sent a letter to the DEP last month, urging testing of the impacted area.<\/p>\n The department responded saying they are \u201ccommitted to protecting Florida\u2019s water resources and ensuring safe drinking water for residents.\u201d <\/p>\n More Tallahassee news: <\/p>\n In the letter from the DEP, the department said it will coordinate with the Florida Department of Health to \u201cexpand private well sampling in the Woodville area.\u201d It will also offer filters to residents where PFAS contamination is found. <\/p>\n Part of the testing will including a sampling plan to evaluate potential sources of PFAS.
