San Antonio FC continued its undefeated start to the season on Saturday night with a scoreless draw away at Monterey Bay FC, but while the visitors would have certainly liked to earn all three points, the circumstances of the contest made a single points good enough after a game that lacked clear opportunities for either side. SAFC, in fact, failed to register a shot on target but after a run of three games in seven days after last Sunday\u2019s victory against Lexington SC and extra time in midweek against FC Tulsa, putting together the club\u2019s longest undefeated streak since 2023 was solid enough.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel okay with point away,\u201d said SAFC Head Coach Carlos Llamosa. \u201cIt\u2019s our third game in [seven] days, including the 120 minutes we played on Wednesday in the Open Cup, plus the travel, but tonight for the most part, we controlled the ball. We just need to be better up front. In the final third, we need to be more aggressive. Crosses, shots on goal, we need to improve our game.\u201d<\/p>\n
7. Lexington\u2019s Zengue Finds Level in Colorado Springs<\/p>\n
It\u2019s probably fair to say that Lexington SC\u2019s Xavier Zengue hadn\u2019t shone too brightly in his first three appearances of the campaign, but having been handed a second start in league play this campaign on Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs the right back came through with a key early goal and strong all-around performance. Playing behind fellow right back Jacob Greene \u2013 who played further up the field as LSC rotated its lineup after three games in seven days \u2013 Zengue won 5 of 5 tackles and 9 of 13 duels to help hold down his side of the field as the Lexington earned a 1-1 draw.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe needed rotation and to help get the healthy guys in,\u201d said Lexington HC Mac Hemmi. \u201c[Jacob Greene] and Zengue have been training extremely well, and I thought they would solidify the right side defensively. With it being an away game, we wanted to make sure we were strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
8. Rhode Island Continues to Lack Finishing<\/p>\n
If Wednesday night\u2019s 2-0 victory against Hartford Athletic in the U.S. Open Cup was a step forward for Rhode Island FC, the club\u2019s scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon at home to Detroit City FC was a step back as the side remained winless in league play after it was held scoreless for the first time this season. In a tightly-fought game against Le Rouge, the hosts outshot their visitors 14-4 but recorded only two efforts on target, leaving the side with four goals off 6.1 Expected Goals in league play so far this campaign.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe positive is that we didn\u2019t lose,\u201d said RIFC Head Coach Khano Smith. \u201cI think towards the end we almost shot ourselves in the foot and gave them [an] opportunity. But we need to improve in and around the goal. The quality in and around the goal, we are working it in well around the opponents\u2019 18-yard box, but the quality is not there.\u201d<\/p>\n
