TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man is facing federal charges after he was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Z-Mart on Jan. 31. <\/p>\n
Laquinton Harris, 36, is charged with one count of Hobbs Act robbery; carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, Northern District of Florida.<\/p>\n
According to court documents, law enforcement responded to a reported robbery at the Z-Mart on Fred George Road on Jan. 31. Security camera video showed an armed person dressed in black with a face covering entering the store.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe individual approached a store employee and demanded money. When the employee responded he had nothing immediately on hand, the suspect fired one round from his firearm into the floor,\u201d according to the attorney\u2019s office. <\/p>\n

The employee took the money from the cash register and handed it to the gunman, who took the money and left, documents reveal. <\/p>\n
After an investigation, law enforcement determined Harris was the main suspect. Harris had a prior felony conviction, and after searching his home, a gun and clothes were discovered that connected him to the robbery.<\/p>\n
According to the attorney\u2019s office, if convicted, Harris faces up to 20 years\u2019 imprisonment on the robbery count; at least 10 years, which must be consecutive to any other sentence, on the carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence count; and up to 15 years\u2019 imprisonment on the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon count.<\/p>\n
