TAMPA, Fla. \u2014\u00a0The north Atlantic Ocean comes to life in Tampa \u2014 and its April 15, 1912, all over again.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s unthinkable \u2014 the unsinkable Titanic is in distress.<\/p>\n
Susan Rupe is on board with her social group from Brooksville.\u00a0\u201cIt makes you realize you never want to be on a lifeboat,\u201d said Rupe.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s all part of the exhibition \u201cTitanic: An Immersive Voyage,\u201d in Tampa through July 12.<\/p>\n
And it all starts at a remake of the bow of the boat.<\/p>\n
It’s where visitors relive that famous scene from the 1997 movie titanic.<\/p>\n
Luxury abounded on the Queen of the Ocean.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we enjoyed seeing the settings of the dining room areas. They were gorgeous,” said Rupe.<\/p>\n
Of course there are photo ops on the grand staircase \u2014 and the illusion becomes more real thanks to the magic of virtual reality.<\/p>\n
For Rupe and her group, learning that the crew didn\u2019t fill the lifeboats to capacity and didn\u2019t help those in the water was shocking.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the crew maybe were afraid to take more people on because they thought the boat was going to capsize,\u201d said Rupe. \u201cAnd if you can put yourself in their place, you\u2019d be scared, but how would you feel by not helping?\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a moral conundrum \u2013 and part of the reason Rupe gives the exhibition a thumbs up.<\/p>\n
