A Doral charter school is mourning the deaths of two students, according to a message sent to families Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n
“It is with great sorrow and regret that we notify you of the passing of two of our beloved [Downtown Doral Charter Upper School] students, Mateo D\u00e1vila and Alessia Tucci,” Jeannette\u00a0Acevedo-Isenberg, the head of schools, wrote. <\/p>\n
“Our entire community is mourning this unimaginable loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, our faculty, and staff at our elementary school and certainly our upper school, where they currently attended. Both students deeply loved their school, their teachers, their coaches, and their peers, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew them. This morning and the coming days, grief counselors will be available on campus to support our students and staff. We recognize that this news is difficult to process. We encourage parents to talk openly with their children and monitor their well-being. If you have concerns about how your child is coping, or if you feel they need additional support, please do not hesitate to contact our counseling department,” the statement continued. <\/p>\n
D\u00e1vila was one of the players on the school\u2019s basketball team, according to an Instagram post published by the team. <\/p>\n
The school did not immediately confirm the cause of the students’ deaths. <\/p>\n
