The area is between 49th Street and 37th Street.<\/p>\n
Residents say one side of the road has been closed since September 2024.<\/p>\n
For the last 10 years, Arlene Evans has called the Twin Gables community in Lealman her home.<\/p>\n
“I love it. You sit back and it\u2019s really lovely. And it\u2019s pretty quiet actually \u2013 besides this,” she said, referring to the road work right outside her neighborhood.<\/p>\n
She said it has led to some hazards with people going the wrong way, and a lot of noise. It has been a year and a half of detours just for residents to get to and from home.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019ve had to alter our way. It doesn\u2019t sound like much, but I used to have only five minutes to go to work. Now it\u2019s down to 15.”<\/p>\n
Pinellas County officials said it is a project to make sidewalk and road improvements to 46th Avenue North.<\/p>\n
The goal is to make the road safer for pedestrians looking to connect to nearby trails and parks, which Evans says is needed.<\/p>\n
“It’ll be nice to have the sidewalks, because we didn\u2019t have access to go to Neri Park here. It was always crossing over and what have you. So it\u2019ll be real nice,” she said.<\/p>\n
So while she welcomes the future upgrades, she and her neighbors just would like to see the work wrap up soon.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s been really annoying. We don\u2019t even know still how long it\u2019s going to be for it to be finished,” Evans said.<\/p>\n
