\n\tThe bright lights of the City of Miami are the backdrop of Peacock<\/a>\u2018s new crime drama M.I.A., premiering May 7, and Deadline has your first look at the trailer<\/a> above. <\/p>\n

\n\tFrom creator Bill Dubuque (Ozark) and showrunner Karen Campbell (Dexter), on M.I.A.<\/a>, running drugs is a family affair for Etta Tiger Jonze (Shannon Gisela).\u00a0But when the family business is threatened, she is thrust into a life she never expected, forcing her to use her wits to survive as she navigates Miami\u2019s criminal underground.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the trailer, it\u2019s revealed that most of Etta\u2019s family was killed, and the young woman is hell-bent on revenge. She must find and kill a dozen men who were behind the crime, who are also hunting for her. By her side are her new friends, Lovely (Brittany Adebumola) and Stanley (Dylan T. Jackson), bringing together Latinos and Haitians, two of the largest communities in Miami. A little \u201cQue Bola\u201d with a \u201cSak Pase\u201d twist, naturally. <\/p>\n

\n\tSeason 1 consists of 9 x 60-minute episodes and stars series regulars Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, Dylan Jackson, Alberto Guerra, Maurice Compte, Gerardo Celasco, and Marta Milans. The guest cast includes Edward James Olmos, Billy Burke, Sonia Braga, Loretta Devine, Tovah Feldshuh, Tyler Perez, Paul Ben-Victor, and David Denman.<\/p>\n

\n\tM.I.A. has the distinction of being one of the few shows set in Miami that was also produced there. Shows like MGM+\u2019s Hotel Cocaine, Netflix\u2019s Griselda, and Showtime\u2019s Dexter have been shot in the Dominican Republic and Long Beach, California, as stand-ins for the Magic City, with some using exterior and aerial shots. The reason for this is that the State of Florida has rarely offered incentives like tax credits and high production costs. An issue the production of Dexter ran into after one season was the high cost of hurricane insurance, among other things.<\/p>\n
