CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public\u2019s help in identifying a woman found dead in the water near Punta Gorda.<\/p>\n
Deputies say the woman\u2019s body was discovered on March 29 in Hunter Creek, near the Peace River.<\/p>\n
Right now, investigators say they don\u2019t have much to go on.<\/p>\n

Because of the condition of the body, detectives believe the woman was likely between 50 and 80 years old. She was about 5 feet 5 inches tall and had light-colored hair.<\/p>\n
One detail they hope could help someone recognize her\u2014she had purple nail polish on her toes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a lot to go on, but unfortunately, we don\u2019t have a lot,\u201d a spokesperson for the sheriff\u2019s office said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to get a little assistance from the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Detectives say identifying the woman is critical to the investigation. Without knowing who she is, it becomes much harder to determine what led to her death.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we have an identity, then we can kind of go back and track who she is\u2026 and help tell a story of where she\u2019s been and what led to her death,\u201d Christopher Hall said.<\/p>\n
Investigators are urging anyone who may recognize the description\u2014or knows someone who hasn\u2019t been heard from\u2014to come forward.<\/p>\n
Even if you\u2019re not completely sure, deputies say they still want to hear from you.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would rather have tips that we chase down that aren\u2019t accurate than have no tips at all,\u201d Hall said.<\/p>\n
Officials say someone out there likely knows who this woman is\u2014and coming forward could help bring closure to the people who knew her.<\/p>\n
