{"id":224023,"date":"2026-04-08T22:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T22:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/224023\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T22:32:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T22:32:08","slug":"in-court-fort-lauderdale-mayor-tells-judge-ex-no-longer-a-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/224023\/","title":{"rendered":"In court, Fort Lauderdale mayor tells judge ex no longer a threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 The former domestic partner of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis made a civil court appearance on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">During the hearing, modifications were made to a non-contact injunction the mayor filed against Daniel Curran, 34, but only after Trantalis told the court he felt his former partner was no longer a threat. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Despite audio from the courtroom that appeared to be shut off, Local 10 News was in the courtroom as Trantalis testified before a judge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It was in September when Local 10 obtained public records showing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/07\/partner-of-fort-lauderdale-mayor-arrested-accused-of-attacking-him-threw-me-to-the-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/07\/partner-of-fort-lauderdale-mayor-arrested-accused-of-attacking-him-threw-me-to-the-ground\/\">the mayor first filed a domestic violence injunction against Curran<\/a>, citing prior incidents of threats and violence while saying \u201cI truly fear deadly physical harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is very complicated for us,\u201d Trantalis said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to Curran\u2019s arrest form, he \u201cpushed (Trantalis) with both hands,\u201d then, after the mayor tried fighting him off, he grabbed Trantalis by his leg, pulled him to the ground, and dragged him \u201capproximately 15 feet\u201d across a road, leaving Trantalis with injuries to his wrist, left leg and right knee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police arrested Curran later that week after they spotted him in Trantalis\u2019 driveway. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">While Curran still faces those charges, his criminal case will no longer be heard in Broward County. The move comes after Florida Gov.
