Two girls from Tamarac are among 16 contestants preparing for the 13th annual Miss Arc Broward Pageant, set for Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale.\n<\/p>\n

The family and sensory-friendly event features teens and girls ages 6 to 17 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Organizers say the experience focuses on building confidence, friendships, and self-expression through months of preparation leading up to the pageant.\n<\/p>\n

Local participants include Kori Armstrong, 12, and Azariah Clarke, 7, both of Tamarac.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Miss Arc Broward Pageant is so much more than a competition,\u201d said Julie Price, president and CEO of Arc Broward. \u201cIt is a culmination of creating meaningful connections and a true sense of belonging.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Each contestant is paired with a teen ambassador from a local high school who serves as a mentor throughout the process. Together, they rehearse performances and take part in social activities designed to build self-esteem.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the event support Arc Broward\u2019s 24 programs serving individuals with disabilities across Broward County, from early childhood through adulthood.\n<\/p>\n

This year also marks the organization\u2019s 70th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Community members are encouraged to attend and form cheer squads to support contestants. Students can earn community service hours for participating.\n<\/p>\n

Individual tickets are $22.13<\/a>, with discounted group rates available.\n<\/p>\n

The Parker is located at 707 NE 8th St. in Fort Lauderdale.\n<\/p>\n
