PORT ORANGE, Fla. \u2013 A pair of South Florida residents was caught stealing mail in Volusia County earlier this month, according to the Port Orange Police Department.<\/p>\n
In a release on Wednesday evening, police said the duo \u2014 identified as Yania Romero, 40; and Yohan Mayo, 36, of Hialeah \u2014 were arrested on April 3.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victim\u2019s video surveillance captured a black Nissan Sentra pulling up next to the mailbox, where the passenger removed an envelope containing a personal check that was meant to be mailed out,\u201d the release reads. <\/p>\n
But thanks to home surveillance footage and Flock automated license plate readers, the vehicle was ultimately identified, police added. Thus, a BOLO was issued for the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office ultimately discovered the car in Deltona, with Romero and Mayo inside, investigators stated.<\/p>\n
A search of the vehicle yielded around 40 checks with a total value of roughly $47,000, the release shows. In all, 25 different victims were identified across Volusia and Flagler counties.<\/p>\n
Now, Romero and Mayo face several counts of mail theft, and possession of five or more pieces of personal identification information.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe U.S. Postal Inspection Service was notified of the mail thefts and initiated an investigation into Romero and Mayo,\u201d the release concludes.<\/p>\n
