FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A man accused of murdering a woman outside of a gas station with a hammer on April 2 is set to be deported, according to a press release<\/a> from the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n

The Fort Myers Police Department posted a video of Rolbert Joachin\u2019s arrest, saying he was arrested in connection with a murder<\/a> in the 3500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers.<\/p>\n

The victim was a clerk at a Chevron gas station, according to witnesses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The release said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement assisted FMPD in tracking down and arresting Joachin.<\/p>\n

Joachin entered the United States in August 2022. The release said a federal judge issued a final order of removal against him in 2022, but he was granted temporary protected status, which expired in 2024.<\/p>\n

According to DHS, ICE lodged a detainer<\/a> against Joachin, and he will be deported \u201cregardless of the outcome of this case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities said Joachin does not have a permanent residence and was not employed.<\/p>\n

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier posted on X<\/a>, saying \u201cmembers of Congress pushing for amnesty should be ashamed. There is no dignity in allowing more American victims at the hands of those who have no right to be in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
