Thousands of volunteers are expected to gather across 33 sites for the 44th annual Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day, Miami-Dade County\u2019s largest community-wide cleanup of Biscayne Bay and other waterways.<\/p>\n
For the first time, all 13 districts in the county will be included in the event, which runs from 9 a.m.-noon, on Saturday, April 11.<\/p>\n
Baynanza, created as part of a larger effort to save the bay, is a celebration of Biscayne Bay and its significance as one of the most important ecological systems in South Florida. Events like this raise critical awareness for these concerns and can make an immediate and positive impact on the environment.<\/p>\n
Among the cleanup sites<\/a> are Crandon Park and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, along with five areas along the Rickenbacker Causeway, including two sites on Virginia Key.<\/p>\n Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and District 4 Commissioner Micky Steinberg will attend the VIP cleanup site at Haulover Beach.<\/p>\n Other members of the Board of County Commissioners will attend the following sites in their districts:<\/p>\n \u2022 District 2 Commissioner Marleine Bastien: Little River Park<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0District 5 Commissioner Vicki L. Lopez: E.G. Sewell Park<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0District 6 Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis: A.D. Barnes Park<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0District 12 Commissioner Juan Carlos \u201cJC\u201d Bermudez: Central West Basin Linear Park<\/p>\n Four boat sites (Florida International University-Biscayne Bay Campus, Pelican Harbor Marina, Shake-A-Leg Miami and Margaret Pace Park) will provide volunteers access to clean up the spoil islands in Biscayne Bay.<\/p>\n Remember to wear closed-toe shoes (tennis-type shoes) and bring gloves, water and snacks for yourself and any volunteers in your party.
