TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Office of Economic Vitality partnered with Florida Commerce to host a workshop on Opportunity Zones in Leon County on Thursday morning. <\/p>\n
An Opportunity Zone is a federally designated zone created to encourage long-term investment in communities.<\/p>\n
These workshops give local leaders, business owners and community stakeholders a chance to help shape the economic future of the county.<\/p>\n
Keith Bowers, director of the Office of Economic Vitality, says opportunity zones turn into economic development.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat will be attractive for corporations, businesses, any type of organizations that are interested in investing,\u201d Bowers said.<\/p>\n

Bowers says asking for community input through these workshops shows investors and state leaders that the community is interested in the developments. <\/p>\n
\u201cHaving these types of forums is a great way to get public input, to engage the stakeholders in the community,\u201d Bowers said. \u201cTo make sure they\u2019re aware of the process, they\u2019re aware of the implications of having that designation. And be part of the process in terms of helping us identify those areas that could benefit the most.\u201d<\/p>\n
