FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 The former partner of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis died by suicide on Thursday, one day after making a court appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Daniel Curran was found dead at a building at Northeast 36th Street and North Ocean Boulevard on his 35th birthday.<\/p>\n

His death comes after a domestic violence case<\/a> against Curran where Trantalis, 72, cited previous incidents of threats and violence.<\/p>\n

Prior to his death, modifications were being made to the injunction, as Trantalis felt his former partner was no longer a threat.<\/p>\n

Trantalis issued a statement on Thursday following Curran\u2019s death saying that he learned of it \u201cwith profound sorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a loving individual, and my sympathies go out to his family,\u201d Trantalis said. \u201cPerhaps now, the pain he endured will subside. May he rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
