{"id":226799,"date":"2026-04-10T20:53:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T20:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/226799\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T20:53:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T20:53:24","slug":"caprice-edmond-secures-wave-of-endorsements-in-pinellas-school-board-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/226799\/","title":{"rendered":"Caprice Edmond secures wave of endorsements in Pinellas School Board race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pinellas County School Board member <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/caprice-edmond\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Caprice Edmond\u2019s<\/a> re-election campaign is gaining support from labor groups, progressive organizations and high-profile elected officials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Edmond announced that her campaign has secured endorsements from the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the St. Petersburg Association of Firefighters (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iaff747.com\/index.cfm\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">IAFF 747<\/a>), Ruth\u2019s List Florida, Equality Florida PAC and Florida NOW. U.S. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/kathy-castor\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Kathy Castor<\/a> and former School Board members Nicole Carr and Linda Lerner\u00a0are also endorsing Edmond.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IAFF 747 President Richard Pauley praised Edmond\u2019s record in office, saying she has \u201chonorably served the students and citizens of Pinellas County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe men and women in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services, who have made the protection of life and property their life\u2019s work, believe you will continue to ensure that the students in Pinellas County Public Schools receive the best education possible,\u201d Pauley said. \u201cYour energy and drive to do the hard work required to make sure every child has the best opportunity to be successful shine for everyone to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Castor praised Edmond\u2019s focus on access and equity in public education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/voteshaneabbott.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-754714 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Ads-Florida-Politics-Abbott_728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou have demonstrated a commitment to the students, parents, and teachers in Pinellas County by ensuring that every neighbor in every neighborhood has access to the opportunities needed to succeed,\u201d Castor said. \u201cI look forward to continuing to work with you on the high quality public schools, good teachers, sustainability and resilience, and accessible health care for our most vulnerable constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Edmond, first elected in 2020, said the endorsements reflect confidence in her record on the School Board.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s truly an honor to serve. I\u2019m appreciative of the support our campaign has received and look forward to continuing to advocate for children and public education,\u201d Edmond said. \u201cThe support for our campaign sends a clear message that my work on the School Board has been recognized and has made a difference. There\u2019s more that can be done to support the success of each student and school district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Edmond\u2019s campaign has met the petition requirement for qualifying and raised over $50,000 \u2014 including just over $8,600 raised during Q1 this year. She is currently facing a challenge from <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/tag\/jase-naranjo\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Jase Naranjo<\/a>, who filed in February and has not yet filed a campaign finance report as of Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Edmond is a parent and has worked for more than a decade in education advocacy.
