FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 The 13th annual Tortuga Music Festival is setting the vibe for first-timers and returning fans alike.<\/p>\n
For some, it\u2019s their first experience taking in the beachfront music scene, while others make the trip year after year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is our third year in a row,\u201d said Susie Magendantz, a visitor from Daytona Beach. \u201cIt\u2019s our happy space. It\u2019s my peaceful place. We love coming here,\u201d added Eric Magendantz.<\/p>\n
With the good times comes a focus on safety.<\/p>\n
Uniformed officers from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department are stationed throughout the area, making it clear they\u2019re there to help festivalgoers.<\/p>\n
Police are also sharing safety tips with the public.<\/p>\n
They say to be cautious in crowded areas due to the potential for pickpocketing and to keep phones and valuables close.<\/p>\n
Festivalgoers are urged to stay aware of their surroundings and to know their entrances and exits.<\/p>\n
Officials also warn not to accept drinks from strangers and not to leave drinks unattended.<\/p>\n
People are encouraged to travel in groups with friends and not to leave anyone behind.<\/p>\n
Police add that attendees should use official rideshare services only and verify the license plate, make and model of the car before getting in.<\/p>\n
Road closures are also planned.<\/p>\n
Seabreeze Boulevard and Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard will shut down around 10 p.m. to allow people to leave the area.<\/p>\n
Anyone in the area who is not attending the festival is urged to be mindful of those closures.<\/p>\n
