Previously, barriers for the yearly event were borrowed from the Fort Myers Police Department. Cape Coral police officers said having their own barricades helps keep pedestrians and motorcycles separated.  Lisa Greenberg of the Cape Coral Police Department said, &#8220;Anything we can do to keep any vehicles that may be in the area away from the pedestrians who are walking around at the event, that&#8217;s what these barricades are used for.&#8221;Some cyclists expressed disappointment that bikes can no longer ride through the event, but many attendees appreciated the focus on safety.  &#8220;I do appreciate that Cape Coral has taken some initiative and they themselves provided the barricades now as opposed to outsourcing it to another department or another group,&#8221; said Alex Rodriguez of Lucky U Cycles. &#8220;So that&#8217;s definitely a positive sign that they&#8217;re investing in the event, which we appreciate because as vendors, we&#8217;re also investing in the event.&#8221;  CCPD said they received grant funding to purchase additional barricades and hope to have them available for future events.DOWNLOAD\u202fthe free\u202fGulf Coast News app\u202ffor your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
