ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Rounds of heavy rain<\/a> and flooding<\/a> moved through Central Florida Sunday.<\/p>\n

The combination of a slow-moving front and unseasonably high atmospheric moisture created extremely prolific rainfall-producing thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, the storms themselves were extremely slow-moving, which helped drive up the impressive rainfall totals across Central Florida.<\/p>\n

Weather setup<\/p>\n

A warm front lifting north from South Florida was responsible for delivering a much more humid airmass to Central Florida. At the same time, the breeze continued to be off the Atlantic Ocean throughout the northern half of Central Florida.<\/p>\n

The persistent east wind also helped to transport tropical moisture through Central Florida. This provided ample moisture for the heavy rain from Brevard to Lake counties.<\/p>\n

That front also carried with it an unstable airmass to help generate robust thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

With winds relatively light, the storms were also slow-moving after they developed. <\/p>\n

In addition, the front acted as a pathway to allow for more storms to build on one another and along the front. <\/p>\n

These storms are known as training thunderstorms as they resemble the cars of a train.<\/p>\n

Rainfall reports of 12 to 20 inches were common Sunday.<\/a><\/p>\n
