TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Community leaders hosted an official housewarming in Griffin Heights on Monday for those moving into the newest housing development. <\/p>\n
The project was a part of a joint effort between the city and county to expand affordable housing.<\/p>\n

The homes were made possible through a partnership with the City of Tallahassee, Leon County and Tallahassee Lenders Consortium. <\/p>\n
Karen Miller, the CEO of the Tallahassee Lenders Consortium, said many people don\u2019t believe homeownership is possible, but through their programs, she says they can guide people in the right direction and help them set up a future for themselves.<\/p>\n
She says they don\u2019t just help people own homes, they teach financial literacy and help them better understand their credit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe share with them how to rectify the situation. Sometimes it really isn\u2019t as bad as they think, and then there are other challenges with \u2018I don\u2019t have enough money,\u2019 so it\u2019s teaching them how to save and budget funding at the same time,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Nine houses have already been built as part of the community land trust.<\/p>\n
Leaders plan to build what Miller called a mini neighborhood of 17 homes. They hope to start construction on that development in February. <\/p>\n
