boater<\/a> who had gone missing in the area close to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.<\/p>\nDetectives with PCSO said they initially responded to a call for service at 6701 Sunshine Skyway Lane, after receiving reports that Tony Le, 63, fell into the water from a boat near channel marker 18.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to deputies, during the search, multiple witnesses tried to locate Le in the water but were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the man disappeared in the water near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Saturday. The call was initially received around 11:30 a.m., and officials said the man did not resurface after falling.<\/p>\n
Search teams looked for Le on Saturday, stopped during the night, and continued recovery efforts this morning. Sunday night, deputies with PCSO said they found the missing boater in the channel south of Maximo Park in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n
According to deputies, detectives said Le was boating with his family, sitting at the rear part of the boat. The boat was cruising at about 10 miles per hour. Then, his family realized Le had fallen overboard and immediately turned the boat around and went into the water, along with other nearby boaters trying to locate him, according to deputies.<\/p>\n
Le had medical impairments and was wearing a life jacket when the boat trip began, deputies said, adding he appeared to have taken it off before going into the water.<\/p>\n
Around 3:27 p.m., divers with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office went into the water in the channel and after several recovery dives, they located Le’s body at an approximate depth of 19 feet, deputies said.<\/p>\n
Family was notified, according to authorities, and they say the incident was accidental. The investigation is still ongoing, deputies added.<\/p>\n
