Florida State University\u00a0and the City of Tallahassee\u00a0on\u00a0Friday\u00a0completed\u00a0the\u00a0legal transfer of city-owned hospital assets,\u00a0marking a\u00a0historic\u00a0milestone for\u00a0FSU Health,\u00a0the university\u2019s\u00a0academic health system.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The action allows Florida State and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to continue their work toward\u00a0establishing\u00a0an academic health center in\u00a0Florida\u2019s\u00a0capital city.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0transfer\u00a0follows\u00a0approvals by the Tallahassee City Commission<\/a>\u00a0on March 11, the\u00a0Florida State University Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Governors<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis\u00a0milestone\u00a0reflects years of partnership and a shared vision for the future of health care in our region,\u201d said FSU President Richard McCullough. \u201cThis is a major step forward for FSU Health and for expanding clinical care,\u00a0research\u00a0and medical education in North Florida.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey added: \u201cTallahassee is known across the nation for its high quality of life, and with the future of FSU Health now solidified, our community\u00a0is poised to play a leading role in advancing medicine while elevating the care available to our residents and the broader region.\u00a0We have successfully strengthened the heartbeat of our city by uniting research,\u00a0education\u00a0and patient care.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare will continue its long?standing role\u00a0of\u00a0operating\u00a0the hospital and\u00a0remains\u00a0responsible for patient care,\u00a0employees\u00a0and daily operations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n This\u00a0partnership will expand medical education, strengthen clinical\u00a0care,\u00a0and grow research in Tallahassee and across North Florida. Together, the organizations are building an integrated academic health system designed to better serve patients while advancing discovery and training the next generation of health care professionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis\u00a0is an exciting day for TMH, FSU and our community. This brings us one step closer to our vision of an academic health\u00a0model\u00a0\u2014 one that will strengthen our ability to recruit physicians, expand specialty services, and continue delivering exceptional care close to home,\u201d said Mark O\u2019Bryant, CEO of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.\u00a0<\/p>\n Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare\u00a0becomes\u00a0the clinical anchor of FSU Health\u00a0and builds\u00a0on\u00a0years of collaboration between the two institutions, including construction of the FSU Health Research Center on the TMH campus, which is expected to open later this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n Leaders have emphasized that TMH\u2019s longstanding mission\u00a0remains\u00a0unchanged, including its commitment to serve all patients.
