The first officer arrived about six minutes later and confirmed the victim had been slashed with a large knife.

The victim, who is the suspect’s father, escaped the home and called for help. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect stayed inside and barricaded themselves in the house. Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Phoenix Police Department arrived within minutes to help. Around 11:11 a.m., law enforcement started making announcements to the suspect.

Mercy Flights ambulance workers and Jacksonville Fire Department Engine 19 crews treated the victim at a safe location away from the scene. Police learned the suspect may have had access to guns, as well as numerous knives and swords inside the home. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office sent specialized support, including a K9 unit, drone operator and a remote robotic unit.

Jackson County Mental Health workers also responded and tried to communicate with the suspect. Multiple off-duty Jacksonville Police officers were activated and came to the scene.

Police set up a perimeter, and Jacksonville Police Chief Hannum directed a Jackson Alerts reverse 911 notification. Residents within a one-block radius were told to shelter in place. West Oak Street was closed to all traffic at South Oregon Street during the incident.

After about three hours of failed attempts to communicate with the suspect, police decided to activate the Jackson County SWAT Team. A search warrant was granted by a Jackson County judge.

Around 4 p.m., SWAT workers entered the home. The suspect had heavily barricaded the entrance but was found inside after retreating to an interior room. Around 4:22 p.m., the suspect was safely taken into custody.

Officers recovered the weapon used in the attack, described as an approximately 10-inch knife. The suspect was taken to the Jackson County Jail and faces charges of assault in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.

Updated on April 13, 2026 at 5:14 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – Law enforcement took one person into custody following a multi-agency operation.

Authorities have cleared from the scene.
