ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 John Morgan took to social media on Monday to announce a new initiative: a $100,000 prize for a contest to name his new third party here in Florida.<\/p>\n
The Orlando attorney opened up his video statement by declaring he would not be running for office.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor about the last year and a half, a lot of people have been asking me to run for governor of the state of Florida. It\u2019s really quite an honor,\u201d he said. \u201cSo today, I\u2019m going to answer that question and tell you my plans.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Morgan, his success with two constitutional campaigns \u2014 one for marijuana use<\/a> and the other for the minimum wage<\/a> \u2014 was already \u201cmore impactful than anything any governor has ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n [BELOW: Orlando attorney John Morgan pushes for 3rd major political party]<\/p>\n \u201cSo I won\u2019t be running for governor,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut I do believe this: that most of us agree on most things. I\u2019ve found that with my amendments, if you take the D down and the R down, we agree on most things together.\u201d<\/p>\n Early last year, Morgan announced that he was starting up a new political party in Florida<\/a>, claiming it would be \u201cfor those of us stuck in the middle.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time, it wasn\u2019t clear what Morgan hoped to achieve with his new party, simply stating that his lawyer was drafting up the paperwork.<\/p>\n During Monday\u2019s announcement, though, Morgan revealed a contest to name the party \u2014 with a $100,000 prize for the winner.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the coming days, I\u2019m going to be rolling out the paperwork that I\u2019ve already got done to have a third party in Florida,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR<\/p>\n Morgan hasn\u2019t revealed much about what this new third party will be about, though the Orlando attorney has been vocal about his political beliefs in the past, and he spoke with News 6 during the 2024 election season to discuss some of the key political issues that he was pursuing.<\/p>\n In line with his moniker as Florida\u2019s \u201cPot Daddy,\u201d<\/a> Morgan told News 6 that he was throwing his support behind Amendment 3<\/a>, which aimed to legalize recreational marijuana. However, the amendment proposal was ultimately struck down by voters during the general election.<\/p>\n [BELOW: John Morgan said he is backing legalization of marijuana in Florida]<\/p>\n According to Morgan, his push for deregulating marijuana stems from his late brother, who had been injured in an accident at Disney years ago and used the drug to help treat his injury.<\/p>\n
